Happy Valentine's Day!
We have had a very full and fun day. We talked briefly about the reason for the holiday but then quickly moved on to something more exicting...food!
I had the best intentions to get up early and make heart shaped pancakes for everyone.
That didn't happen.
Fortunately, IHOP has pancakes with strawberries on top and that seemed like a good substitute. Strawberries are red like hearts on Valentine's day so that works, right?
The kids didn't seem to mind that I didn't have homemade heart shaped pancakes.
My little loves...
Stuart gave me a box of chocolate covered strawberries and a dozen red roses. He's so sweet!
For dinner, we continued the red food theme with lobster and crabs. Before you get too excited, Kroger had a special on some little bitty pre-cooked lobster tails for $5.00 each. They weren't the best lobster we've ever had but it was a great way to let the kids have their own little lobsters to try without spending a ton of money. I also got some crab legs on sale too.
Nicholas is quite good at cracking crab legs. He did much of his own work but we did often find chunks of good meat hiding in shells of his discards.
Rachel didn't do any real cracking but she had fun playing with the cracking tools and it made her feel like she was participating.
I love our red themed dinner! Kroger, as well as most grocery stores, will steam your seafood for you so it's warm and ready to eat when you get home. That's what I did and it worked out great. It was so easy.
