Well Exam x 2

I don't know why I always get a little anxious at my children's well exams. Maybe it is the anticipation I feel for them over getting immunizations. Or maybe it's that the doctor will finally realize that I have no idea what I'm doing as a parent and that I'm just winging it each and every day. Whatever the reason, I'm always relieved to be out of the office and back in my car.

With that in mind, I don't know what I was thinking when I schedule both kids for their well exams at the same time. Nicholas for his 5 year old exam and Rachel for her 6 month exam. First we were running late which of course made me a little more frazzled than usual. Then Rachel was fussy because she hadn't had her morning nap. Off to a great start! Nicholas did fine getting on the scale (this was an issue last year and I really had to almost hold him on it to get his weight. Then I had to undress Rachel so they could get a naked weight on her. I had to hurry through this because I always get peed on!

Both exams were rather uneventful. Nicholas answered the doctor's questions himself and he was a great patient the whole time. He weighs 45 lbs (75th percentile) and is 45 inches tall (90th percentile). Hmm, 45 and 45. That's kind of neat. Nicholas was very excited to hear that he was not due for any shots today! Yeah!! But he knew that Rachel was going to get some and was actually a little excited to know that he would get to watch her get her shots.

Rachel is doing well but I'm supposed to be ramping up her baby food feedings to 2 servings of cereal, 2 servings of vegetables, and 2 servings of fruit every day. Wow! I've been just giving one serving of any kind of baby food each day and milk for the rest of the meals. It's been working fine and she hasn't seemed to be hungry for more. She currently weighs 16 lbs, 13 oz (75th percentile) and is 27 inches tall (95th percentile) so I think whatever we are doing now seems to be working just fine. I'm not going to rush to shove all of this food down her mouth each day but I will start offering more food to her and see if she seems to want it.

Here she is enjoying her mushy green peas with her LSU Tigers bib. She actually likes green peas. This was the one baby food that Nicholas couldn't eat when he was a baby. He would gag on it every single time!

  1. How interesting...I remember when Reese was a baby, he started rice cereal at 5 months but certainly wasn't on much more than that at 6 months either! Glad she likes peas though. She wears them well :)
