Reading

Konos Unit: Attentiveness
Theme: Music/Composers

We do lots of reading with Konos. There are suggested book lists for each unit. I've bought some of these from used library book sales and Half Price Books but we also get lots of books from the library. I just really dislike library books because I always, always, always want to keep them past the due date and never think to renew them.

I happened to find this perfect pair at our library.

Nicholas loves reading books from the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osbourne. This particular book is about Mozart and his opera The Magic Flute. Nicholas was excited when we stumbled upon it. But I was even more excited to find a DVD in the Children's Cultural Collection series that was of a live production of The Magic Flute. It was shorter than the full production but still long enough for Nicholas to start getting bored and fidgety before it was over. Still, it was a great supplement in our studies of music and composers.

I always try to find books that go with the theme we are studying that are for younger children like Rachel. Nicholas reads these to her as part of his reading assignments.

It works out beautifully because they each get excited about it and I love to watch them huddled together over a book!

Sometimes Nicholas brings a book or two in the car and reads it to us as we run errands during the day. That's one of the beauty's of homeschooling that we can do our work just about anywhere!

Here are a few of the other books that we've read.
