More Milk!

Rachel is so stinking cute when she asks for more milk. She still calls it "Noulk" or "Nilk" or "Nolk" or something like that. I just love quirky pronunciations from toddlers! But what's also cute is that when she decides she wants milk and doesn't have said milk in sight, she will often kick in to panic mode. Now I don't usually torture her by making her wait for her milk but I just had to capture the cuteness somehow.

Rachel loves her milk!

It's funny because I used to be the same way about milk (I still am). I remember when I was little, I woke up one night and wanted milk. My parents were out of milk - can you believe they could let such a thing happen?! My creative and accomodating mom presented me with a glass of milk made from some powdered milk she found in the pantry. Of course, it wasn't ice cold from the fridge so she had added some ice to it to make it cold. Sneaky but you can't fool a true milk addict. The subpar milk just wouldn't do and I started crying because I just wanted milk and nothing else would do. I remember even asking if we could wake up Dad to go get some milk at the store. I don't recall what happened but I really doubt that I got my milk that night.

I'm still get cravings for a glass of milk and, sometimes, there is just no substitute.

Waterproof Mascara

Rachel is almost two years old. She likes to explore and play on her own. Unfortunately, she gets into everything if she isn't constantly being watched.

Today I was trying to get some things done. Rachel was playing quietly in our room. We have some toys in there for her so I didn't think much of it. But when I went in to play with her, I realized that she hadn't been playing with her toys. Instead she was painting our room with my waterproof mascara!

Our walls, a desk, and our bathroom door are now decorated with streaks of black that don't just wash off with water.

Love my little girl but she is keeping me on my toes!

A Sandwich From Out Of This World

My son is creative and not just when he's playing. He's also creative with his food. Today he wanted an afternoon snack and said he was going to make himself a sandwich. I heard him getting some things together in the kitchen and went to check on him. Here is what he had out...

...pickles, bread, baby carrots, and Cracker Jacks. I'm not exactly sure how all of this was going to work together to make a sandwich but he informed me that it would. He knows this because he's been to "Sandwich Planet" and he eats these all the time there. Now that's truly a sandwich from out of this world!

Chasing Ducks

Rachel and I love the local duck pond. It has a fun playground, swings, and lots of ducks. Unfortunately we didn't have any bread to bring to feed the ducks but that didn't slow Rachel down one bit. As soon as she saw the ducks, she threw up her little arms and squealed, "Ducks!"

...and then proceeded to chase them!

I loved watching her squat down to talk to the ducks, "Hi, duck."

Eventually she gave the ducks a break and made her way onto the playground. I tried to get her to smile for a picture. She said "cheese" but kept looking the other way as she said it.

Of course, no trip to a park is complete without hunting for treasures. Rachel found a nice big acorn on the ground.

She decided the ducks would eat this just like bread so she started chasing them down to feed them.

They weren't very interested in the acorn though!

I love this action shot...

This was Rachel's first time on a "big girl" swing. She usually only swings in the little bucket seats. Mommy was a bit nervous letting go of her long enough to take the picture but she really did great and held on to the chains the whole time.

Having a Wild Time at the Dallas Zoo

Rachel and I met up with some friends at the Dallas Zoo. She loved the penguin exhibit and didn't want to leave. She compared her height to the penguins. Wow, this one is really tall!

But her favorite part was watching them swim. "Look Mommys! Dare he is!"

(Note: she used to call me Mommy but then she learned the possessive "Mommy's" as in "That's Mommy's cup". Now she calls me "Mommys" all the time. And, of course, Stuart is "Daddys".

She liked sitting on top of the elephant statues. She said, "Cheese!" for the camera several times but always while she was looking somewhere else. Well, it's a start.

Everything is exciting to a toddler.

Why look at the zebras when I can play with this muddy gravel?

She did like the giraffes though, especially since they came right up to us. I'm embarrassed to admit that I bought the exorbitantly expensive lettuce. 3 leaves for $5.00. Yes, I could have bought several heads of lettuce for that price! But my little girl was enjoying the giraffes so I really wanted to see if she would feed them. Honestly, I didn't really expect her to do it. She is so timid about some things that I expected her to just cling to me. But instead, she watched another little girl do it and then she did it herself like a pro! So proud of her!

We watched a cool lion encounter where the trainers talked to us about the lions and showed us some of the things they had taught the lions to do. It was amazing that these lions are only 1 1/2 years old but they tower over the trainers when they stand up on their back legs. They are such incredible and majestic animals.

Of course, we had a fun picnic lunch and there was lots of running, climbing, and playing with friends.

I had a lot of fun with Rachel at the zoo. It's neat watching her explore and experience new things on her own and not just following her big brother around and copying everything that he does.
